yay! Tony went to a new home! We are very excited for him and for his family. So far, all is well. I don’t like to say until after at least a couple of months have gone by, to make sure everyone is settled in.

So now we don’t have any more fosters. That is great! Our regular dogs are settling in. Unfortunately we won’t be able to take any more fosters, either. So unless Utah Collie Rescue finds some foster homes, we won’t be able to do much for a while.

If you would like to foster, please let us know!

We still have Major Limited Services… we are not able to foster any more collies in our own home, and in order to help with the collies we are desperate for foster homes. Would you like to foster a collie? If so, please let us know!

Well.. okay this is a bit off topic but it’s some interesting information for you and for me! Do you like to eat Oysters? I have had them once in my life. They were pretty slimy… not bad, though. Not my favorite but I would probably try them again.

I like pearls too… though I don’t have many. I am concerned about the over farming of pearls from oysters, but then I’m concerned about many number of environmental issues, too. It would be interesting if oysters contained items other than pearls… maybe gold, but then maybe they would be too popular. Instead of a grain of sand, perhaps a grain of gold would be the center, and maybe a gold pearl would appear.

Of course maybe something to benefit the collies would be inside the Gulf oysters, like something that would make people smart about no longer breeding… or, hehe, perhaps some drug that prevents conception! How would that be? I think it’d be pretty cool, though of course most of humans wouldn’t think it was very cool at all.

Either way, if you click on the link above, you will find some good information about the safety of eating Raw Oysters. There is a bacteria that may be present in Oysters. So if you do eat them, please be Oyster Aware and check out the information on the web.

I haven’t posted in quite some time… mainly because we haven’t had much to report. We are still looking for a home for Tony, and we have been getting some help from CAWS to try to find a home for him. We do need to find him a home, a good home, soon. He is such a great boy and he needs so much more love and attention than we can give him at this time in our pack life.

We are going to have a regular dog pack of four collies and two border collies, it seems. Sometimes dogs just fall into your lap and stick. We are going to be keeping Muffit, a Border Collie boy who was returned to us. We fostered him a couple of years ago for CAWS. He has had four homes now… ours is the fourth. And it is no fault of his own. He is sweet and loving and wonderful. Maybe he is just too cute, so people adopt him and then realize they can’t keep him. No matter, his changes stop here.

So Tony, who doesn’t fit as well with our pack, is still looking for a home. Or a foster home too!

Here at Utah Collie Rescue we are plugging along even though our services are very limited and we can’t take in any new dogs. We still have Tony who needs a home and he is a doll. I took him for a walk this morning and he loved it. He has so much fun on walks and he loves his flexi leash. He likes to sniff and smell everything. And I love flexi’s because I love that the dogs can do that and they don’t have to pull on a short leash.

We are doing some budgeting and planning here at UCR too, and it’s tax time soon so we have to keep that in mind as well. We also got a border collie returned to us. So we are up to 7 dogs again. And we are dealing with Lucy’s impending cancer too.

Everyone is snoozing now, it’s just after 1 pm and the dogs had a big morning. And yesterday we did some collie agility which was also fun.

We are pretty sure our blue smooth girl, Lucy, has cancer. She has spots on her lungs in the xrays they took today. She is going to have an ultrasound next week to see if they can find a tumor. It could only be a lung infection.. but she has had no coughing or sneezing.. so cancer is the most likely option.

We are devistated, of course. But we will go on. We will continue to do our best.

I will continue to do agility and flyball and obedience, and not worry myself about car insurance. Next Tuesday we will find out more about our options.

I’m excited. The plane leaves here at 1:30ish PM. My husband will be taking care of al the dogs while I am gone. It’s only until Sunday, though.

No luxury watches will be sold there, but they will have a bunch of fun clicker training items, and classrooms, and I’ll be able to watch the dogs learn. Though I’ll be missing my dogs, as they won’t fit on a plane!

I’ll be back next week.

Things are going well around here. All the dogs, all six of them, have settled into a routine and are getting along. Even Chase, our border collie, has accepted Tatum, our new adopted girl, and Tony, our foster boy. Still with six dogs we cannot give the fosters as much attention, and walks, as they really deserve. So we do hope Tony will get a home soon. He is such a marvelous boy.

I was taking a shower today and all the dogs were out playing, I could hear them. It’s so nice when everyone starts getting along to the point where I can trust them together unsupervised. And it’s Chase, our Border Collie, who I worry about most.

While we don’t have any treadmills in our house, we are trying to keep everyone active and in shape in these cold winter months. The dogs don’t mind the cold, so go outside to play. But they do come in after to stay warm in their cozy beds.

It is great when things just work out right, you know? We got a call yesterday from a couple who is interested in adopting a youngish female collie, as they lost a collie just last Christmas. Too sad. It’s hard to loose our best collie friends.

Anyway, these folks are up in Idaho. So I sent an email to a contact near them.. and the contact is just getting a collie girl into rescue today.

I do hope it works out! That would allow this collie girl to get into her new home quickly, which is always the best way to go.

And boy oh boy, we would never give our dogs any testosterone boosters.. they have enough already! Leave those for the body building humans!
